Help for a community member

We were contacted this week by a community member, R, who is in need of some community support. R is going through a very messy divorce. R's ex-spouse was the only adult who worked outside the home prior to their divorce, and the ex-spouse chose to not pay the rent on the home they shared, along with many other bills. The ex-spouse has been court ordered to pay R several thousand dollars to catch up those payments, and has not done so - it is likely they will be held in contempt of court over this, but that will not prevent R from being evicted. In the last few months, R has gotten a job, a vehicle, and has been trying to sort out the path forward. R has also filed for state assistance programs, which have not yet started helping with the rent. Being evicted would make it hard for R to find another place to live, and would void the pending application for assistance. R needs about $4000 immediately - preferably by Friday the 17th - to get completely caught up on their rent. While we understand that this is likely a very challenging thing to manage, we also know that helping R right now will mean they have a buffer to help make next steps if they cannot raise enough funds to stop the eviction. We will pass all funds raised straight to R.
