Education has long been a central theme for Spiral Moon, and with that in mind, we present Spiral Moon Academy. SMA is our PreK-12 homeschool support and virtual parochial school.
We offer a fairly secular core curriculum at this time, utilizing online options for flexibility, and an array of electives, including Pagan-specific courses. We also plan to offer (for 2023-2024 school year) a weekly story and discussion. Books will include fairy tales, folk tales, mythology, and other Pagan-centered readings. Families that are not Pagan are welcome to join us – we do not have a required statement of faith and are open to all.
We know that the political landscape around public schools has gotten a little (or a lot) unfriendly for many Pagan families, and we want to offer you an option that is run by folks who want to see inclusive options for our kids, and that centers things like honoring the world around us, a multitude of deities, and respect for each other.
We encourage families from all over the country to join us (that’s another benefit of online schooling). We can work with you to make sure our program meets your needs and your child’s needs – although we’re not entirely sure that we can work with every child and every disability at this time, and we definitely don’t have the supports that a public school would have, we want to figure out how to work with as many families as possible. Rev. Janet’s own children are autistic, and homeschooled, and making sure we work towards full inclusion is an important part of this project.
We know that tuition can be a challenge, and we currently offer families a way to participate in our fundraising program to help offset tuition. We hope to be able to offer scholarships in the future. We also require families to volunteer, and offer a discount for some teaching opportunities.
